Albany State stayed in the hunt for the Southeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East Division title with a 16-13 victory over the Morehouse Tigers.
Morehouse jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second quarter. Donnay Ragland’s pass to Darquan McCain gave the Tigers its first opportunity inside the redzone. Junior running back Thomas Williams capped the 6-play, 78 yard drive with a 10 yard touchdown run.
The celebration was short-lived as the Rams special teams blocked the point-after attempt. Sophomore defensive back Keionten Miller picked up the ball and returned it 90 yards for two points.
Albany State took the lead on the ensuing drive. Florida Atlantic transfer quarterback David Kooi made quick work of the short field given to him on the kick return. Senior running back Nathan Hoyte exploded through a huge hole off the right side sprinting untouched into the endzone.
Junior defensive back Dexter Moody extended the Rams lead with a 38 yard interception return for a score.
Freshman running back Antoine Easterling tightened up the score in the fourth quarter with a 6 yard run.
Albany State’s ‘Dirty Blue’ defense stepped up its stellar play in crunch time forcing a Ragland fumble and ending a potential scoring drive.
